Teresa is the owner and founder of 551 Forensics, LLC, with over five years of specialized experience in forensic accounting within the public accounting industry. She has authored numerous investigative reports for use in civil and criminal cases, covering topics such as marital waste, pension valuations, employment fraud, misappropriation of assets, economic damages, business disputes, and breaches of fiduciary duty. Teresa has conducted fraud risk assessments for small businesses, identified and quantified past fraud damages, and provided recommendations for policy and procedural changes to enhance financial security and mitigate fraud risks.
As a Registered Social Security Analyst (RSSA), Teresa helps individuals and businesses navigate the complexities of Social Security planning by analyzing financial scenarios, optimizing benefits, and providing guidance to enhance retirement security. Her expertise adds an additional layer of value to her forensic work, particularly in cases involving pension valuations with social security offsets, long-term financial planning, and economic damage cases.
With extensive experience collaborating with all parties involved in cases—including victims, defense teams, and prosecutors—Teresa has also provided expert witness testimony in family law and probate matters. Her consulting experience spans multiple criminal cases, working on behalf of both defense and prosecution teams.
In addition to her forensic accounting expertise, Teresa has a background in tax and audit and over 12 years of experience in accounting services for private companies. She also has more than 11 years of experience in law enforcement communications, including skip tracing and investigative support for police officers and detectives.
Teresa earned her Bachelor’s in Accounting from Ottawa University, Phoenix, and an Associate’s in Administration of Justice Studies from Glendale Community College. She holds credentials as a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), a Registered Social Security Analyst (RSSA), and a Licensed Private Investigator (PI).
James has been a Certified Peace Officer in the state of California since 2002 and brings over two decades of law enforcement experience, including 14 years as a criminal investigator. His investigative expertise spans a wide range of complex and sensitive crimes, including child abuse, sexual assault, bank robbery, kidnapping, homicide, and use-of-force incidents. James has served as the primary investigator on more than 50 cases involving homicides, officer- and deputy-involved shootings, use of force resulting in great bodily injury, assault under the color of authority, peace officer suicides, in-custody deaths, and the murder or attempted murder of on-duty peace officers. Additionally, he has assisted on over 200 investigations involving similar cases.
James has been an integral part of his department’s Active Homicide Team and Cold Case Homicide Team, and he was a founding member of the department’s Force Investigation Detail. Over the course of his career, he has conducted hundreds of interviews related to use-of-force incidents and is widely recognized for his expertise in California legislation and Federal case law governing the reasonable use of force by law enforcement, including landmark cases such as Graham v. Connor (490 U.S. 386, 1989).
James has extensive experience reviewing and analyzing digital media evidence, including body-worn camera footage and surveillance recordings, to assess use-of-force incidents and various criminal offenses. His expertise in these areas has led to his role as an expert witness in multiple criminal and civil cases, where he has both consulted and testified.
James earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from San Diego State University. He is a Certified Force Science Analyst and a California POST Certified Instructor, teaching at the community college level, regional law enforcement academies, and in the private sector.
